Sportsman of the Year: Jeter

Derek Jeter won Sportsman of the Year, a great honor for the Yankee captain who now has a ring for every finger. In this steroid fueled era, he is baseball, the face, the heart, the soul, the man. the greatest winner in the sport—if anyone deserves it, he does.
Buuuuuutttt, I can't give him Sportsman of the Year. In this case, it has to go to Roger Federer. Has to. In a year when everyone thought maybe his time was done, that Nadal had surpassed him, he won two slams—Wimbeldon and The French--and made it to the finals of the other two. Also, he broke Sampras's record with 15 career grand slam singles titles. He amassed 15 in a shorter time frame than Tiger won his Majors, yet Tiger has won something like 3 Sportsmans of the Year.
Federer deserves it this time, if for no other reason than a lifetime achievement award. And two slams ain't too shabby.

  1. Jeter was more of a team sportsman of the year.. he kept the yanks on the straight and narrow and stayed true to the title.. Captain...brought the team together for a championship... The Fedman did it by himself.. no coach.. broke records.. the best of the best.. should be an award for both but in different categories.. Fed probably did something that no one else will ever do.. perhaps.. Unless Nadal goes on a streak but I doubt it...
